The Problem

Finances can be intimidating when you’re a young adult.

The Objective

The objective of Groove Money was to create a platform that could leverage the client’s vast content library to promote financial literacy. The aesthetic is vibrant, lively, and inviting with the intention that the subject matter would feel less intimadating to the targeted demographic. Young adults (18-24) are the primary demographic and a thoughtful introduction of tailored content aspires to instill good financial habits that can be used throughout their earning careers.

The Execution

Working with the stakeholders, we were able to diagram out a product map to for a starting point. Making sure to leverage the wealth of knowledge, we planned for a user to able to interact with the platform by reading/watching content, setting goals for earning or saving, entering their cashflow to monitor spending habits, and educate themselves on retirement savings. We’d also implemented the groundwork for gamification by introducing badges to earn through achievements. This system was built to eventually scale and include points, a level progression, and daily missions/tasks to increase engagement. Working with the stakeholders and their psychology resources, we were able to propose and validate some of our gamification theories. After the project had completed phase one, I was transitioned off to work on other incoming projects. When I had downtime between said projects, I’d often jump back on the ever-growing Groove team and provide design support. I performed a thorough product audit with the goal of proposing the next milestone initiates. I even laid the groundwork for a brand-new Figma file system that leverages libraries to help reduce the overall file sizes and increase file navigation for the development team.

A fully responsive design was key as a majority of the users prefer mobile experiences.

On the badge gamification page, we introduced interactive 3D badges that displayed the custom completion date of the user. I modeled the badge mesh in Blender and created texture maps in Figma.

A two week product audit yielded an updated product map, several bug reports, and enough information to create a presentation based on next steps for the platform.

Conclusion

Through effective marketing, testing, and refinement, Groove was successfully in helping educate users to better financial habits. It was reported that 72% of users felt better about their money, 73% had developed more healthy money habits, and 89% had an increased understanding of personal finance.
